Mangrove forests are special types of forests that grow in coastal areas where the land meets the sea. These trees can survive in salty water and muddy soil. They have strong roots that grow above the ground ,which helps them breathe and stay firm during strong waves.
Mangroves play an important role in protecting coastal communities. During storms and tsunamis, mangrove forests reduce the strength of waves and prevent flooding. Because of this, many countries now protect and plant mangroves to reduce natural disaster damage.
Mangroves are also home to many animals such as fish, crabs, birds and small sea creatures. Many fish species begin their lives in mangrove areas before moving to the open sea. This makes mangroves important for fishing industries and food supply.
However, mangrove forests are being destroyed due to pollution, construction and overfishing . When mangroves disappear , costal areas become more vulnerable to erosion and storms. Therefore protecting mangroves is essential for environmental balance and human safety.
